Social Furniture

Designing public furniture that starts something.

The Nest Social Furniture concept creating places to climb, gather, sit, and connectConcept visualization

These are directional planning ranges, not fixed bids. Final budgets depend on configuration, materials, engineering and accessibility requirements, site conditions, foundations, surfacing, freight, installation, and permitting.

In the studio

Creating the conditions for connection.

01

The Condition

Most public furniture is optimized to survive weather, maintenance, and misuse. Those goals matter—but they often produce places where people perch briefly, face away from one another, and move on.

02

The Idea

Treat furniture as a social invitation. Shape orientation, movement, flexibility, and play so that conversation and shared use feel natural rather than forced.

03

What We Are Creating

A family of public-space concepts that invite leaning, lounging, climbing, gathering, curiosity, and unexpected interaction.

04

The Human Outcome

More reasons to linger. More low-pressure opportunities to acknowledge another person. More public places that feel alive.

05

Ways to Partner

Cities, developers, parks, districts, artists, and institutions can collaborate on a site, prototype, activation, or new piece.
