The market continues to transform downtown on four nights each summer.
West Wisconsin Avenue needed more than traffic. It needed a reason for Milwaukeeans from different neighborhoods and backgrounds to choose the same place at the same time.
NEWaukee launched the Milwaukee Night Market in 2014 as a free, open-air mix of artists, makers, restaurateurs, performers, and participatory activity. A business district became a shared stage.
The Night Market was developed through NEWaukee during Jeremy’s tenure as co-founder and Chief Idea Officer—part of a larger practice of using events to change how people perceive and participate in the city.
The Night Market has grown from a new public-space experiment into a four-night summer institution generating more than 200,000 attendee visits annually. Its endurance matters as much as its scale: the experience continued after ownership transferred to Westown Association in 2021.
The market made downtown feel less like a corridor and more like common ground—a place to discover local work, encounter unfamiliar people, and participate in a recurring civic ritual.
