The Idea
Turn art-making into a visible public performance—and give the audience a consequential role rather than asking them only to observe.
The Format
Sixty-four artists compete head-to-head in timed rounds. The paintings happen live in the streets, and public voting determines which artists advance through the bracket.
Jeremy’s Role
As NEWaukee’s Chief Idea Officer and co-founder, Jeremy helped introduce the tournament concept with the City of Wauwatosa and described it as a signature art experience designed to celebrate artists and welcome people into local businesses.
The Participation Mechanism
The bracket creates narrative. The clock creates energy. Public voting creates ownership. Together they make artistic process understandable, social, and worth returning to throughout the event.
The Economic Impact
ART 64 has become an economic engine for The Village as well as a cultural event. The City of Wauwatosa estimated $578,727 in local impact in 2024, followed by $656,691 in 2025, and reports more than $2 million in cumulative economic impact across the event’s first four years.
The Continuing Legacy
The inaugural ART 64 took place in 2022 through a NEWaukee and Discover Wauwatosa partnership. It continues as a national live-painting tournament with a $20,000 grand prize.
